Out and About in Liverpool
Whatever the weather, Liverpool has our love
Feature
Stop staring at your wallpaper and get out once in a while to contemplate someone else's. The Magnet (45 Hardman Street, 0151 709 6969) has a nice line in kitsch flock, but you'll really want to go here for the bands, as this venue is great both for viewing and listening to decent music. For an adrenaline rush akin to seeing Pete Doherty almost kill himself when he played at Zanzibar, try climbing to the top of the Anglican Cathedral (St. James Mount, 0151 709 6271). You simply won't believe that anywhere can be so high. Or windy. If you want the complete opposite, then a genuinely weird and fascinating tourist attraction is the Williamson Tunnels (Smithdown Lane, 0151 709 6868) an extensive but completely useless construction intended to give the unemployed something to do. Nowadays we have Trisha. If it's more culture than you can get in an Iain Banks novel you want, then try the Tate Gallery (Albert Dock, 0151 702 7400), a guaranteed winner for paintings, sculptures and other arty tat.
