Tate Liverpool
The veritable apex of Liverpool's cultural life has to be the Tate, bestriding the city like two great hairy legs rising into the sky with its genitals obscured by clouds. Many Liverpudlians are still shell–shocked that it actually exists in a city that otherwise produced Scouse House, which may explain the huge visitor numbers of disbelieving locals confronted by the choicest of modern art in such beautifully grounded waterfront surroundings. Then again, maybe they're just alarmed by the pair of pegs towering over the city.
