The Cooler/The Scholar's

The Cooler is in the John Moores student union - though anyone can walk in during the day - and is an ugly, modernist/brutalist eating area with all the charm of an angry Cylon. The menu is the university equivalent of school dinners, and, unsurprisingly, it's not very popular. Things aren't helped by a load of TV screens showing awful videos and adverts. The aptly named Scholars, just next door, is far better. Real wood and pool tables give it more of a bar feel, but the food is the better equivalent of pub grub; cheap and unpretentious. We know where we'll go for a cheap feed.
